Girlfriend vs Star Trek! The Solution
It may be a dilemma that many men face either happy girlfriend or peace to watch Star Trek!
There is a very simple elegant solution to the problem and it doesn’t involve divorce, separation or staying up late and watching Star Trek with the remote like porn hoping she doesn’t come in the room.
What you need to do is re-brand Star Trek in her mind, how you ask?
Here is how tell her its like Eastenders in Space! Okay I realise we have just insulted Star Trek a little but bare with me. Next and most importantly you need to back this comment up with some viable episodes otherwise you will be branded a liar and you will have missed your chance forever! So never use the phrase when you randomly see ‘Star Trek’ in the TV planner because it can very easily backfire.
Finding characters for your partner to relate to or to be intrigued by is vital in the case of my woman the characters she developed relationships with was really surprising but not necessarily disappointing.
- The Doctor (Star Trek Voyager) – This is a hard one to explain but for some reason he seems like an easy character for your female to bond with
- Quark (Deep Space Nine) – Strange choice but okay Emma refers to him as the ‘Greedy man with the cafe’
- Data (Next Generation) – Now I like Data but I had always considered him a more hard core character for seasoned watchers however the simplicity of his day to day problems seem to strike a chord. Known to Emma as ‘The man that made his baby and they tried to take it away’
The episodes I would recommended based on the 3 characters above are :
Real Life – Star Trek Voyager
One - Star Trek Voyager
Latent Image – Star Trek Voyager
Move along home – Deep Space Nine
Little Green Men – Deep Space Nine
The Bar Association – Deep Space Nine
The Offspring – The Next Generation
The Measure of a man – The Next Generation
Brothers - The Next Generation
There is a chance that this will not work and your two great loves will be forever separated but why not give it a go! It worked for me and Me, Emma and Star Trek where enjoying at times a slightly uncomfortable but beneficial threesome then Channel One (Virgin One) went off the air and took Star Trek repeat heaven with it.
Everyday that passes now she probably forgets about the greedy man in the cafe and robot man who makes a daughter so I suppose there is two options buy ever Star Trek on DVD or switch to Sky.
My success was ultimately confirmed in 2010 when Emma bought me tickets to see Patrick Stewart’s interview at the Edinburgh Film Festival.
Sky 2 are showing ds9! 3 eps on a sunday!
Give it a while though. Early ds9 could kill any relationship.
Would also be a hassle if she became a hardcore Voyager fan! That would be a bit of a back fire
